Everything's Sweeter During Maple Sugarin' Season

Wisconsin winters can be long and that last stretch of waiting for spring can be even longer. Luckily, there's something we like to call "the fifth season" to help fill the gap- maple sugarin'!

With over 40 years of history and around 400 maple trees tapped each year, Riveredge has maple sugarin' in it's blood. Maple sugarin' is a time to celebrate the changing of the seasons, teach about the wonders of the forest and trees around us, and experience the pure magic of turning a byproduct of nature into a delicious treat. Whether this is your first season or your 20th, we hope you'll join us for a season of fun, community, and appreciation for the wonder of nature!

Some of the season highlights include:
  • Tapping the Sugar Bush on February 24th from 1-2:30.  Help us prepare for the sugarin’ season by tapping the maple trees in Riveredge’s sugar bush. We need people to drill the holes, tap in the spiles and hang the buckets. When it’s maple sugarin’ time, spring can’t be far behind! (This event is great fun for the whole family!)
  • The Maple Syrup Suppers on March 2 and 3, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.  Riveredge members (and any guests they’d like to bring with them!) are invited to to eat, drink, and be merry while learning more about the sugaring season and getting a special night tour of the evaporator!  On the menu: A delicious feast featuring just the right infusion of maple syrup with each dish (full menu to come!)  Your first beer, wine, or soda is on us!  Get those toes tapping: One of our favorite bands, Embedded Reporter will be on hand to play their unique blend of folk, blues, country, and more.
  • The Maple Sugarin' Festival on March 18th from 10-3.  Riveredge’s Maple Sugarin’ Festival will take you on a journey through the sugar bush where you will experience the maple sugarin’ season like never before. Along the way, you’ll learn how to tap a maple tree, observe live demonstrations, participate in hands-on activities, enjoy music, games, and much more! When you reach the evaporator, you’ll see how sap is transformed into syrup and enjoy our famous pancakes and 100% pure Riveredge maple syrup. Lunch & refreshments are available for purchase.   Festival activities include: Syrup tasting, historical legends and experiences, indoor crafts and games, make your own pancake mix, tree tapping treks, lunch hour refreshments for purchase, music and, for the big kids, don’t miss The Fermentorium serving Never Frown Brown Ale served with real maple sugar!
  • The Pancake Breakfast on April 8th from 9-1. Morning never felt so good. A unique treat featuring Riveredge’s 100% pure maple syrup, “all you can eat” pancakes made with organic flour along with ham, coffee, and other beverages. With a live band, expect a party! Dress for the weather as the event held outdoors at the evaporator in Riveredge’s sugar bush.
